Stuttgart Conference on Production Engineering – FtK

The University of Stuttgart presents latest scientific results during the International Exhibition for Metal Working – AMB

Together with its Fraunhofer partner institutes, the University of Stuttgart is Europe’s strongest research location in the field of production engineering. On September 29 and 30, 2010 they will present latest trends and results at their traditional scientific conference which takes place during the International Exhibition for Metal Working – AMB. Over the last 40 years, the Stuttgart Conference on Production Engineering (FtK) has become one of the most important platforms for scientists and experts from industry.

Real-time simulation, potential for energy efficiency in manufacturing, integrated energy management in mass production, product piracy or synchronous factory: These and many more new developments and trends in production engineering will be presented by six university institutes and their industrial partners. Following the theme: “Sustainable Technologies and Processes for Manufacturing Tools”, the conference focuses on:

Top in the world market
“Our region is the world’s most important machine supplier. Every other German machine tool comes from Baden-Württemberg. Through our research and continuous innovation we contribute to the fact that today 50 percent of the added value and every third job in the region is in the field of production“, says Professor Uwe Heisel, head of the Gesellschaft für Fertigungstechnik (Society for Production Engineering). The self-financed society includes six university institutes and two partner institutes from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Together with their industry partners, they have presented and discussed new trends and innovations with stakeholders from science, industry and society since 1967. The FtK 2010 offers 40 top level lectures over two days held by experts from research and industry, including an exhibition of current research projects.

Unique research in an attractive economic environment
With more than 700 scientists, Stuttgart is Europe‘s strongest research location in the field of production technologies. The engineering faculties of the University of Stuttgart regularly reach top rankings. The region of Stuttgart is a very attractive economic environment for those research institutes. On the one hand, there is a wide range of interested companies assigning path-breaking industrial projects to the university. On the other hand, they offer brilliant job opportunities to the numerous students, graduating from the engineering faculties every year.

Stuttgart Impulses
The FtK Conference takes place during the AMB for the third time now. “This cooperation is logical in respect of the topic, makes sense strategically and is very attractive for both sides“, says Professor Heisel.
